WHO ARE I AM? 02.23.17

Who Are I Am? I know, that isn’t good English. Who are I am? This thought has been on my mind a lot lately. Mainly because I’ve been shifting towards a career change. I know what my degree says I am. I know what I’ve said I am. I know what my jobs have said I am. I know what my resume says I am. I know what others say I am, but who are I am? I keep saying what I want to be, what I want to do, but I don’t say that I am those things.

In Exodus God said “I Am That I Am.” Evidently He didn’t know English either, but He knew who He was.

God spoke, He created. He created us. He created the animals. He created the sun, the moon, the stars. He created all…with His Words.

He said “I Am” and He was.

How often do we release a sentence from our tongue starting with “I am…” and how do you finish it? The tongue has the power of life or death (Proverbs 18:21). How often do our words bring death, whether to our personality, our career, our self-worth, our future, and how often do our words bring death to others and their dreams or goals?

Do we watch closely enough the things we speak? God said He is I AM. Christ said he is I AM. If Christ lives on the inside of us, who do we say we are?

I am a follower of Christ. I am an excellent wife to my husband. I am an excellent friend. I am successful. I am victorious. I am debt free. I am a writer. I am a poet. I am an author. I am happy. I am healthy. I am. I AM.

I am in Christ and Christ is in me. It is through Him that I can do ALL things.

Exodus 3:13-14 (KJV)

And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.

John 8:58 (KJV)

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Matthew 16:13-20 (KJV)

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

Mark 8:29 (KJV)

And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

  1. When we look at Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, we see that I Am shows His strength in our weakness, and brought Paul to say, “When I am weak, then AM I strong.” Christ in us is the great strength of I Am in us. (Does that make sense?)
